teacher and I'm Madison a born and raised witch running my family's crystal shop and we're here to explore all things woo through the lens of both
science and spirituality so that you can find the moments of magic in your everyday life and create an intentional
spiritual practice so if that's what you're into find a cozy spot take a deep breath and let's demystify some
magic howdy duty friends howdy duty friends we are here to
conclude elementary school we're graduating graduating elementary school
and you know I'm so proud of you all you did that so proud of us we really did the damn thing today
we're here to talk about what some might call the forgotten element h we're here
to talk about spirit sometimes called ether which I did not know i never heard
it called ether but I kind of like that it It feels like a It feels like I'm living in a romanty novel to call it
ether you know hey hey um Hey what is
the spirit element's favorite musical artist i don't know tell me ether Kane
you know I like them better when they're personalized to me and my interests
i'll say it i'll tell you the truth that's how I
feel ether Kane anyways that's our podcast thanks everybody we'll see you next week
oh I'm excited to get into this one i feel like it's going to be a nice culmination of everything yeah spirit is
really how we like kind of tie it all together but before we do so yes Molly
what was your magic moment this week okay I have a very exciting magic moment if you follow me on Instagram you
already know also I feel like this was 10 years ago even though it was literally less than a week ago i got my
fallopian tubes removed and the crowd
goes wild [Applause] i I did it for sterilization purposes i
am someone that I've always known since I was a wee wee young lass i did not want children of my own i wanted to get
my tubes tied back when I was in college and I was not allowed to because of patriarchy and a lot has changed in the
last 13 years and so I was able to just go and find a provider and say like this is what I want and she was like cool and
did a laparoscopic surgery last week i will let you know I was representing all
of you when I was coming out of my anesthesia because I hadn't eaten all
day my surgery was at like 2:45 and when I woke up I explained to
the very nice nurse not once not twice
more than three times that you can get a McFlurry with both topics
you know you're really doing the Lord's work i know i know and then I went and
got a McFlurry with both toppings on my way home and that was my first meal of the day and it was glorious it's what
you deserve it's what you deserve i know so I feel amazing i just took my last
birth control pill of my life last night and I'm really excited so I I know lots
of you have wanted like period magic kind of stuff and I feel like excited to
explore that part of my practice because I I have felt like cuz when you when you are on birth control you don't actually
have a period you have a withdrawal bleed and I feel like I've really missed that i know i know it's weird people are
like "Oh yeah you don't get a period anymore." I was like "No I had them keep my ovaries cuz I want my period." I get
it i really do understand that when I stopped taking birth control I realized how much I like kind of need that for my
own internal cycle like yes it writed and this is not me saying that you should stop taking your birth control
like I we support all choices it just wasn't right for me it like mentally it
was not good for my mental health um I had like negative adverse reactions to birth control one day they'll take out
my fallopian tubes but Molly actually I told her that she had inspired me and I
told her that in the same sentence I told her that she had inspired me to pursue that path one day and that I
could not record on a Thursday and Molly thought that I was getting my fallopian tubes out that Thursday i was like girl
moves fast she's going for it but yeah I'll do I'll do a full like in-depth
YouTube video about my experience answering all the questions and stuff so if you're interested in that just go
ahead and subscribe and it'll be out there eventually but I feel great a week later I feel awesome i feel amazing also
I just realized that I'm in my new office and that was not my magic moment like my magic moment well look at how
You know what we're just banging up those magic moments i'm ranking them up it's been a great week y'all what was
yours my magic moment was a class that I taught last week at Spellcrafter i
taught a money magic class that really like solidified it in my brain of like
oh you're capable of teaching and you really enjoy it something I have been telling you for years yeah well
sometimes we have to learn through experience you know yes and so I've kind of put off teaching and I've taught one
other class at Spellcrafter on candle magic and really loved it really enjoyed it but I was an anxious mess and so I
don't think I was really able to like soak it in that I enjoyed the experience
and so I taught this money magic class we made money bowls it was so much fun i
like got to collect all this vintage glassware that I had like thrifted over the last few months and we made these
money bowls it was such a great time and I will make like a small plug because you guys keep asking if my classes are
online and in the past they have not been but Anthony and I are teaching a five-part tarot series uh that starts at
the end of May that is online i'm excited for that molly will be there i'm
very very excited about it it's going to start on May 28th and then every other Wednesday for I guess the next five
every other Wednesdays we will be meeting to talk
about first the major arcana and then we're going to go through each of the suits and I am so so excited if you
can't make the time an online ticket you'll get the replay i just can't wait i really it's like unlocked something in
me that I'm like "Oh teaching is really just like getting to talk to other people about this thing that we both
love and growing together." And I don't know it just was such a fun time and I'm
also really excited to teach with Anthony i feel really honored that he wants to teach with me cuz I see him as like my teacher i know not to brag but
the the three of us need to do a class together one day that No that would be fun i'm into that retreat retreat
retreat i'm really excited for that class because you know I've wanted to learn how to read tarot and I feel like
every guide I've tried to follow I fall off of and I think it's because the universe was waiting for you to step
into this role and teach me because for some reason whenever you talk about tarot I'm like "Oh that makes sense that
makes sense." I'm really excited because Anthony and I also read very differently
and so we're going to kind of we're going to start with your intuition let
you intuit it what you think that card is about and then we're going to each talk about our different interpretations
and how we got there and what they mean to us and how you can kind of develop that almost one-on-one relationship with
the cards that I don't like that's just the only way that I even know how to describe it like they're Mhm once you
think of them like your friends and like your acquaintances and like people and energies that you know it's so much
easier to to read them as like fullbodied complex things rather than
like keywords in a book and so we're going to get you there so what you're
saying is the key to reading tarot is connecting with the spirit element
excellent segue my friend that is exactly it before we segue too far I
will let everyone know we're going to leave a link to that class down in the show notes so if you want to join me in
geeking out and watching my friend Madison teach us all about the tarot you should come could be fun i don't know i
don't know i don't know all right let's dive in okay spirit so I was telling
Madison before this episode that for each of these elements we've talked a little bit about traditional Chinese
medicine and we have to kind of take a little bit of a hard left
because if you were to look up in traditional Chinese medicine which
element connects with spirit you would not get an answer you would probably get
something that connects with the heart uh meridian which is home to shen which
is spirit or maybe the kidney which is home to the kidney jing which is your
life force energy and there's really not a perfect overlap however I want to talk
about the wood element in traditional Chinese medicine and I will make my case
for why I think this is the element that is tied most closely to spirit hit me
don't don't actually hit me with a 2x4 with this information okay on a personal note the wood element was the first one
that I ever really connected with so I this is this is an aside but here's take
go down the rabbit hole with me the wood element is tied to the organs of the
liver and the gallbladder the gallbladder is located or the meridian line of the gallbladder which again
corresponds with the function of the gallbladder rather than the actual like physical organ in in Chinese medicine
and that runs along the outer edge of the body so think outer knee outer hip
outer uh waist kind of line when I was first introduced to TCM it was in a yin
yoga class literally a decade ago at this point and I was having two things were
coming up in my life at that time i was having really unexplainable knee pain which was explainable later in my story
if you've heard any part of kind of my journey into the Woo but at the time unexplainable knee pain it made no sense
i was like working with the trainer and he was like I don't understand why you have knee pain in these movements and
not in these movements and I was like don't know couldn't tell you couldn't tell you nothing made it feel better and
I also was irrationally angry in staff meetings when I was an advocate i was
like that cartoon character that when someone interacts with them they become like a steam whistle you know like I was
just blowing up internally and externally and so I go to this yoga class and my teacher Sageel she very
much wo TCM into her classes and she was talking about the wood element and the liver and the gallbladder and as we're
doing these movements the next day I realized my knee doesn't hurt and then I
went to a staff meeting literally the next day and I was able to keep my lid on and not freak out and so I was like
that's so weird what a weird coincidence come to find out as I dove into my
hyperfixation on TCM and and understanding these this particular
element the liver and the gallbladder are so tied to our anger and really like
repressed feelings in general think of like the liver's role in the body is to detoxify so if we're not releasing those
emotions we're harboring them they start to fester so it can manifest as anger
frustration irritability and because it was the outer line of my knee that's
where my pain was so both countering that anger helped my knee and vice versa
so anyways that's that's one of the reasons why I see this element as like a
just an overarching like piece of the puzzle and especially because we talked about in
the water episode about how those emotions and our resilience to emotions
really impact all systems of the body it's like if we're not able to release those emotions detoxify those emotions
and we harbor those grudges they start to impact us in all these different ways the biggest
way is in our ability to grow and expand and
flow particularly when it comes to the flow ofqi or vital for life force energy
but think about if we are all blocked up with anger think about like being
constipated you know you you're pressurized down there you're uncomfortable you can't release anything
that's kind of like what happens with our anger and our frustration when we don't detoxify it when we're out of
balance with this wood element and so therefore theqi can't flow the energy
can't flow and if the energy can't flow now we're stunted in terms of our growth
and expansion and so one of the things I like to think about with the wood element is how can
we release these energies metabolize these emotions so that we can continue with
that flow of chi which allows for our growth and expansion and some of that can manifest as you know stiffness in
the body if we if we don't have that flow it can show up as irritability anger frustration it can also show up as
difficulty making decisions and I think that's one of the ties into spirit as well because when we're deeply connected
with the element of spirit or ether decision making becomes easier it's like
when you're reading tarot cards if you feel really connected to spirit you're
going to be able to read that card and be like "Okay this is what it feels like it means." Versus when you're out of
balance with that element it might show up as like "Ooh let me read 15 different interpretations of this card and get
lost in the sauce and not check in with myself." Mhm and then it's like which one is going to bring you in the
direction of expansion and growth and help you make decisions the one that you're more
connected to and so that is my TED talk on why I think the wood element is the
closest tie to the spirit element is because it really governs growth and
expansion think about like if you need help remembering the wood element trees
grow trees also detoxify our air
trees grow and the full moon is when the moon is the [Laughter]
fullest hey you know what it's true sometimes we're just here to tell you the obvious yeah and I think the spirit
element is so tied to like that expansion but the expansion that comes
from connecting with your true self and connecting with the spirit that is within you right we talked about in the
water element all the water that's ever been within you has been within me we're all connected that wisdom of your true
self is is ingrained in you like the roots of a tree yeah i really love the
tree symbolism and like the especially the roots because that ties in really
well to what spirit kind of represents in the world of witchcraft and paganism
which is that idea of interconnectedness and I think about how trees
are not only connected to like the ground but also connected through to each other through their roots they can
talk through their roots they can talk it's so cute it really Have we talked
about this recently we like Yeah yes okay great i'm I was like am I having dja vu no we talk about this frequently
because I think about it sometimes i'm like uh oh my god that's just like so beautiful that's the way that I want to
connect with other people through your roots through my roots i don't want to talk out loud i just want you to feel
everything that I've ever felt and thought and experienced and I'll feel everything you've ever thought and felt and experienced and then there we go
there's no need for words there was a trend online that people kept sending me videos about that I I love by the way it
was like the trees all talk to each other so if you're holding a grudge or someone wrongs you tell it to a tree cuz
then they'll spread it the original the original gossips that is witchcraft
that's what I want to be when I come back you know I don't want to come back as another person or as like a critter i
always actually say I want to come back as the queen's corgis but now there's no queen so I'll take I'll take a I'll take a
tree i'll take a tree and I want to be next to your tree a So you know there's
no playing telephone when I gossip with you anyways we'll have a tree podcast
okay we'll play would you rather and then branch out into other subjects i
hate it here i changed my mind i need a two to three tree buffer
uh okay so I don't know if this is canon okay but to
me the major arcana in tarot is the element of spirit hey if I can tie wood
to spirit you can tie major arcana to spirit right because each suit in tarot
if you haven't if this is your first episode of the series first of all go back to the beginning but I'll still cater to you in this moment and let you
know that in the past four episodes I've been connecting each tarot suit has a an
element that it is aligned with the major arcana at least in nothing I've read or nothing like no one that's
taught me has ever connected this to the element of spirit but the major arcana so deeply embodies the element of spirit
it's like the spirit's journey the fool's journey yes exactly and it you
know I kind of associate the major arcana with like they are archetype
energy they signify this like larger than life literally sort of energy and
so what else could you compare that to other than spirit you know but spirit also represents that
like divine intuition that spark within us that I think goes really well into
what you were saying about wood about that interconnectedness i don't know why that interconnectedness is really like what speaks to me about spirit i almost
see spirit as like the mother of the elements you know like
nothing we all come from spirit everything that's here comes from spirit
and so it's actually interesting to end with spirit because to me spirit feels like the beginning spirit feels like the tie the thing that you know connects all
of us and that's what I actually think is really cool about TCM mhm i feel like
those elements are more interconnected and have more overlap yeah cycle yeah
than traditional earth air fire water it feels like we really segmented those those four elements and spirit kind of
comes in to remind us like hey no we can't have one without the other yeah that's one of the things I love about
TCM is in five element theory which is like really what we're talking about
here each element is fed by an element and then feeds an element so they they
all they're actually depicted in a circle because they all cycle through each other and then they're all connected with a different part of the
body but also a different season of the year so and season of the year season of
life that's so beautiful yeah big fan big fan that sparks joy that sparks joy
okay will you tell me your crystals for spirit because I feel like I have some and I want to see where we match
okay my number one is probably Apolite that's a good one I didn't even
think of apolite is my favorite for connecting with the divine connecting
with Reiki opening up that channel to spirit i just love it i love it and I
love that there are different kinds of apophilite like sometimes I feel like I get it a little bit too into spirit and
I need to ground myself in which case I grab a green apite because it has that earth element in it as well that
connection to the earth so apite is my number one i also love selonite mhm
selonite I feel like the frequency of that crystal it for me it kind of like
it sheds the the energies and the layers that are blocking me from connecting to
that interconnectedness yeah like I feel one with spirit when I sit with salelonite and then clear quartz which
honestly I would I would argue could connect to any element but for me that's
my like deserted island stone and so if you're like okay what's one crystal you
need to connect with spirit like clear quartz is the first thing that comes to mind but my favorite is pairing selonite
with clear quartz one in each hand sit breathe feel one with the the universe i
love that my I feel like I go back and forth between my number one this is actually
kind of a new development for me in my crystal journey that for me I really associate fluorite with spirit ah well
fluorite's connected with the third eye and the third eye and the crown their elements are ether and for me fluorite
is so I don't know how to say this it like grounds me in spirit yes so it's
also a really great stone for focus i recommend it to people who are like studying for a big test all the time
it's a great thing to have in your office etc etc it also really helps me to focus in meditation so when I'm
trying to do that like very traditional meditation that we don't spend as much time talking about but I do I find it
necessary for me and my connection to spirit I bring flu with me because of my
squiggly brain where especially rainbow flu that has that it's almost like equal parts usually green and purple that kind
of the same thing you were talking about where the green is very earth and then the purple is very crown where I feel
more balanced in between those two things cuz it's kind of the same thing i can get kind of lost lost in space mhm
it's really become a stone of spirit for me because it was Linda's favorite stone and so now for me it like very much
represents to be so in spirit not even just because
she's in spirit but because she was like so that way that she could tap in so
easily and was so connected to spirit so connected to the divine and it was her favorite stone and so I'm like "Okay
I'll take that I'll I'll I'll take that tip from you." Yeah but also amethyst and I love amethyst for spirit one
because it's so easy to get your hands on it's so beginner friendly it's so incorporated into crystal jewelry and
things like that but is also so powerful it's like Amethyst to me is like a
really good pop song you you want to you want to not like it because everybody likes it and everybody has it but with
time you realize that it is like so [ __ ] good can I share my truth tell
me as a girly who grew up listening to unsigned underground bands notoriously I
sent Madison a very long voice note about an artist that has 64 listeners on
Spotify she's committed she's committed to the underground every word of his discoraphy you know so as a girly whose
gravestone could say "I knew them before they were cool." As I've gotten older and I don't
know if this is just like because I'm no longer around people that I feel competitive with or because I feel more
interconnected to all beings in general through my practice i could not give a
flying [ __ ] if what I listen to is popular or not like I'm equal parts
Sabrina Carpenter and you know the artist 64 listeners you know and I I
have no shame in saying that espresso was in my top my Spotify wrapped last
year mhm totally amethyst is espresso i was just going to say amethyst is
espresso i think fluorite is creme brulee are you not on that side of Tik
Tok no what's crumb brulee is there a song david Archeletta i'm sorry i
watched him on American Idol and that's kind of it this is where our generation okay so he he I I never listened to him
when I was younger but I do follow him on TikTok so he was on American Idol when he was
16 and then over the last decade or so he has renounced his Mormon faith come
out and just recently released what people are calling the gay Latino
Espresso a song called Creme Brulee i haven't seen this at all i knew he was
no longer a Mormon and I knew he was gay but I didn't know anything else it just came out it's excellent i need you to go
listen to it i need you to listen to it right away okay well I know what we're doing after this podcast
anyways it's the fluorite of the musical world right now i believe it i believe it you know what I mean fluorite's a
little rainbow i'm taking your word for it exactly yeah if you have listened to
that song chime in in the comments is it the creme brulee of the crystal world i
thought you were talking about the dessert i thought that you had left pop songs and had gone to food items and I
was like "Yeah sure." Like I love creme brulee a little crusty a little sweet not too
sweet so good surprisingly texture doesn't upset me i'm but I'm usually
like that always surprises i'm a strange texture person you know I get upset with the textures very easily don't like fla
love creme brulee yeah is it the crispy i think the crispy really does like
offset it mhm mhm mhm i've only had creme brulee once so I have no real like
frame of reference really wow we'll have to rectify that yeah chicago
chicago send us your best Greetle Chicago Rex
all right now that we have uh sufficiently derailed as just as I was thinking that we were really on task I
know geez through this episode let's talk about some rituals to connect with spirit any kind of ancestor work
for me is great for working with spirit i think that it's a great way to tune in
to not only that interconnectedness that we have with all living beings but also
it's a great way to remember that we have that same level of interconnectedness with everyone who is
gone uh something that Anthony says a lot that he learned i can't remember who
said it first to him but he said it to me and so I'm going to credit him because he'll I'm sure it's somewhere on his socials that he said it but your
loved ones that you've lost are only one thought away and you know we've talked
about ancestor work in the past that it doesn't have to just be your biological family like your grandparents your
great-grandparents but it can be anyone it can be Whitney Houston as we learned in that episode yeah yeah go tune in to
that episode if you're curious about it i was going to say something similar and that is connecting with your
altar in general and I want to preface this by saying so my my office is
functional at this point which if you've been on this journey with us it's been a long road i did not realize how
disconnected from spirit I had been feeling until I spent all day yesterday
just like rearranging my books and unpacking my crystals and like turning
this space into like I don't even have my altar up here yet and this space already feels like an altar like it
feels so connected to spirit so I would say altar with an asterct like an altar or your physical space that you live in
you spend time in your desk your office your bedroom your nightstand whatever it is but like really connecting to that
space and arranging it in a way that feels really good to you and feels really connected to that spirit yeah
totally next I was going to say any kind of divination mhm working with your
tarot cards your pendulum the accashic records crystals any of that very
specifically the act of scrying is one of my favorite ways to like truly truly
connect to your intuition like obviously there are books on scrying there are
hundreds if not thousands that's when you gaze into something shiny right so you can use you can scry using it's like
using a crystal ball is scrying people also use fire for scrying people also use water for scrying you it's gazing
into anything that can be fluid so if you're using a crystal like if you're using a crystal ball you set a flame
behind it and the flame moves and allows you to see things cloud gazing is that
scrying totally yeah wow and so yes you can like Google what does it mean to see
XYZ whilst crying but I implore you not to do that
an excellent ritual for connecting to spirit is to sit in front of an open flame let your gaze go kind of slack mhm
let the images come to you and allow your intuition to tell you what they mean wow and write it down okay i like
that i love that but also any form of divination obviously helps you connect to that intuition and if you feel like
you need almost like divination training wheels don't feel bad looking at the
guide book for anything but also maybe like let me nudge you in the direction of using using just what is inside mhm
you have all the answers i pinky swear yeah yeah i that's why I've loved on
Instagram i've been doing a divination series using sumo oranges yes that is
scrying i started it as like a a joke and now it's genuinely become a form of
divination that I use but it's so nice because there's no guide book it's like oh it's easy to peel this week's going
to be easy oh it's sweet it's a little sour what does that mean for this week and it's one of those things where it's
like you can you can make it up mhm and I know people are like "Oh how do I know
if I'm not making it up?" Who cares it's it's your practice make it up and then
let yourself play your imagination your spirit lives in the imagination mhm let
yourself play and I think the only way to quote unquote like know if you're making it up is to write it down and see
what happens and give yourself permission to be wrong yes except the
fact that you are going to be wrong that there is no one who has like a perfect
track record of never saying quote unquote the wrong thing or not getting a
message perfectly or misunderstanding or
miscommunicating you know like nobody escapes a divinatory practice without
being wrong and I would argue that so long as you are staying
within being an ethical practitioner there is no harm in being wrong mhm yes
yeah nothing bad will happen to you nothing bad will happen to you if you you know like I one of my favorite
things is following different like silly
divinatory Tik Toks like there's one have you seen the the guy who throws the trash into the can every week no but
there's a woman who throws asparagus okay so there's a guy that throws trash out of his window i think he's like on
the third floor and he's like is he picking up no it's in a bag he tries to
throw it into the trash can and if it lands in the trash can it's going to be a good week and if it lands out of it it's going to be a bad week and then I
also follow a guy who uses Gillow's pickles for divination and so the amount of liquid he spills when he opens the
jar and how crunchy the pickle is determines the week so I think those practices like they're so silly they're
so fun but they are truly deeply one of the best ways to connect with spirit and
to get out of your head i agree wholeheartedly so go buy some Gorilla Pickles everyone did we do it i think we
did it we did it look at us that's a wrap on elementary school yes let us
know what you thought of this series let us know what series you want to see next and uh we have a very very fun couple of
episodes coming your way so make sure you subscribe and drop us a little rating if you want to we haven't asked
you for that in a while and we would love Yeah we would never be mad with a little fivestar situation little fivestar situation you know could be fun

oh I'm excited to get into this one i feel like it's going to be a nice culmination of everything yeah spirit is
really how we like kind of tie it all together but before we do so yes Molly
what was your magic moment this week okay I have a very exciting magic moment if you follow me on Instagram you
already know also I feel like this was 10 years ago even though it was literally less than a week ago i got my
fallopian tubes removed and the crowd
goes wild [Applause] i I did it for sterilization purposes i
am someone that I've always known since I was a wee wee young lass i did not want children of my own i wanted to get
my tubes tied back when I was in college and I was not allowed to because of patriarchy and a lot has changed in the
last 13 years and so I was able to just go and find a provider and say like this is what I want and she was like cool and
did a laparoscopic surgery last week i will let you know I was representing all
of you when I was coming out of my anesthesia because I hadn't eaten all
day my surgery was at like 2:45 and when I woke up I explained to
the very nice nurse not once not twice
more than three times that you can get a McFlurry with both topics
you know you're really doing the Lord's work i know i know and then I went and
got a McFlurry with both toppings on my way home and that was my first meal of the day and it was glorious it's what
you deserve it's what you deserve i know so I feel amazing i just took my last
birth control pill of my life last night and I'm really excited so I I know lots
of you have wanted like period magic kind of stuff and I feel like excited to
explore that part of my practice because I I have felt like cuz when you when you are on birth control you don't actually
have a period you have a withdrawal bleed and I feel like I've really missed that i know i know it's weird people are
like "Oh yeah you don't get a period anymore." I was like "No I had them keep my ovaries cuz I want my period." I get
it i really do understand that when I stopped taking birth control I realized how much I like kind of need that for my
own internal cycle like yes it writed and this is not me saying that you should stop taking your birth control
like I we support all choices it just wasn't right for me it like mentally it
was not good for my mental health um I had like negative adverse reactions to birth control one day they'll take out
my fallopian tubes but Molly actually I told her that she had inspired me and I
told her that in the same sentence I told her that she had inspired me to pursue that path one day and that I
could not record on a Thursday and Molly thought that I was getting my fallopian tubes out that Thursday i was like girl
moves fast she's going for it but yeah I'll do I'll do a full like in-depth
