0:01Welcome to Demystify Magic with Molly and Madison.I'm Molly, a former skeptic turned full time energy healer and teacher. And I'm Madison, a born and raised witch running my family's crystal shop. And we're here to explore all things woo through the lens of both science and spirituality, so that you can find the moments of magic in your everyday life and create an intentional spiritual practice.0:20So if that's what you're into, find a cozy spot, take a deep breath, and let's demystify some magic.Howdy Doody friends.Howdy Doody Day.Today I came prepared in that I am dressed for the occasion.0:36That was the first thing you said to me today is that I'm dressed very on theme today with my red you can't see.Obviously this is a not a visual medium, but just so everyone knows, I am in a bright red T-shirt and I have a bright red background.Yes, I'm bringing the energy.0:52I'm wearing black so I'm also coordinated.Yeah, by the way, not as fun.We swapped personas for the day because today we're talking about the Root Chakra. It's the first installment of our Chakra series.I'm very excited.1:09Yay.Launching our next two months of content, seven weeks now.We did our our little bit of an intro last week, so if you missed that, you might want to queue it up.Yeah, queue it up.Maybe go back, listen to that first, and then come back here to get started on the Root.1:26Or listen to it after. You know what? There are no rules. There's no rules here. There's no.Rules.I'm not here to tell you what to do.I am, and I'm going to tell you do not skip this episode if you here's here's my greatest pet peeve in the world of chakra healing.Everybody wants to work on their third eye, their crown, right?1:43Their throat, their heart.Nobody wants to work on the fucking root. But The thing is, I always say this to my students, if the foundation of your house was wonky, you wouldn't be worried about what color to paint the walls. You wouldn't be worried about fixing the roof. You have to start with the foundation.2:00And the root really is that foundation. It's like literally the foundation of the house. It's the foundation of your energetic system. We're going to talk about the body and how it's the foundation of literally like all of your joints in your body.So if you have a wonky root, don't worry about what's above it.2:16You got to start here 1st.And even if you don't have a wonky root, always tend to the root chakra.Yeah, it's such an interesting metaphor for how I see kind of all spiritual healing is that we are all me included.2:32Like I am not.I'm not exempt from this.We are all ignoring the unsexy work to be done. You know, root chakra work is not my favorite thing to focus on because it is deeply unsexy. It is so much more fun to work on your third eye.2:49Disagree.Hard disagree.I think root is the most fun.I guess I mean from like a like an outward perspective, it is so much more fun to think about having a really open third eye than it is to think about having a really strong foundation.3:05I still I strongly disagree, but I think that's just because I've come to terms with the fact that like that open third eye means shit if you don't have a strong foundation.I totally agree.I'm more so talking about like what I see in other people, like people who come into the shop.Everybody does want to work on their third eye because that is sexy.3:23It is sexy to think about how cool it will be to have access to all these psychic abilities. And you do have to strip it down because you're right, none of it works if there's no foundation. If your house is blowing in the wind, you can't see anything with that third eye because everything is, you know, swaying back and forth.Yeah, or, or the other analogy I use a lot is like a tree.3:42In order for a tree to grow big and branch and flower and grow and all of that reach the sky, it has to have really, really, really deep roots. If the root system is fucked, the tree's not going to grow. And you're the same way, and the root is your root system.3:58So Fox done.We got it over with early today.Clip that sound clip of if the root is fucked. If the root system's fucked, you're fucked. And there's nothing to be done.Get off the roof, stop picking your shingles.4:19But there's cracks in your foundation, everybody. We could also you know what, this is also great advice for contractors.I know.Well, I also think about like we'll get into this, but the, the, the foundation of the house, it's not just like the foundation, but it's also like the heating and cooling system having running water.4:37If you didn't have running water, you would not be worrying about what kind of shower curtain you're going to decorate your bathroom with.Like that's the thing. That's what that's what it's like if you skip the route and just jump to the heart or the third eye or whatever. It's like picking a shower curtain out when you don't have running water.4:54This soapbox is not going to end.Prepare for a 40 minute soapbox.I can't wait. And what I think is so interesting is the way that chakra healing also really aligns with like the hierarchy of needs.Yes, no, we're going to go into that. We're going to go into that.We got to do our magic moments first.I can't.5:10I'm sorry, I forgot. We haven't done that.Slide into this.Sorry.Oh my God.Sorry guys.I.Can't slide into the you're you're you're gonna. There's a train that won't be able to stop once it starts moving.OK, give me give us just one moment.Molly, what was your magic moment?Quickly, let's get it out.My magic moment is that I bought a tarot journal last time I was at Spellcrafter.5:30And every day I've been pulling a card and I've been writing in my tarot journal what the card is.And then the next day I've been looking back at my day and seeing how it like showed up in my day.And I know we say this as advice all the time, but I've never actually done it where I've written down the card and like reflected on it.5:48And I actually think I'm learning tarot now.Good job.I'm so proud to feel like a proud mother. My magic moment is that I was so extroverted over the weekend.I really put myself out of my comfort zone and I think I did a good job.Yay.6:04We had two events. There's another local witchy spot that had their grand opening this last Friday. It's called Witchy Heights if you're in Saint Pete.Really, really incredible space.I'm very, very excited to collaborate with Lorraine, the woman who owns it.And then on Sunday, it was Saint Pete Pride.6:20Saint Pete actually has the biggest pride in like the Southeast. And they do a market on Sundays. And we had a little pop up and I had a lot of fun.It was so hot and it did pour rain for like 90 minutes in the middle. But something that you might not know about me if you listen to this podcast is that I am deeply, deeply introverted.6:42I'm not great at peopling and so it was really, really a stretch for me to do so much interacting with strangers and I think I did well. You nailed it.I nailed it.I love that you say that even though you weren't there and all you heard about was that it was hot.6:58Like that was all I.I saw the updates.I I peopleed all day and then at like 10 PMI finally texted you and was like it was so hot.I finally feel like I can talk to another human being.I've I've given all my words for the day. This is all I've got is it was so hot and it rained halfway through. That was my favorite part.7:15My other favorite part was the first thing you texted me that morning was good morning. My protein shake curdled in my stomach at Pride.Yeah, that is that was, I was out there for maybe 10 minutes and I was like, oh, milk was a bad choice. It was not good.7:35It was not good.I was supposed to give readings.I was like, I don't think that I can my you know what?My root was wonky. My root was wonky and I could not access my third eye.I was.Like.Anthony and I were supposed to switch on and off, and you had to do it the whole time because I was like, my belly hurts.7:54I can't be psychic. What a good segue. You're so, so true. You want to talk about wonky?8:14Try a fair life core power. In 90° This episode is sponsored by.God, I wouldn't.What I wouldn't give. Are you convinced you should buy one?8:32Yeah, I'm doing a really good job.Oh, OK, Root, root, root, root, root, root, root for the foundation. That's my theme song for this chakra.Don't look at me like that.I just didn't know where you were going.8:49I don't either. The dance was good too, you couldn't see it, but there was just a slight arm wiggle. All right, let's go back to the hierarchy of these 'cause I really want to talk about that.Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.Let's let's talk about it.Chakra healing is for me, like one of my favorite things to talk about from the perspective of the alignment of science and spirituality because it is kind of a just a different way to look at things that we've learned all of our lives.9:15We say it all the time in like, I don't know, is it psychology classes?I don't know where I learned the hierarchy of needs.Maslow's hierarchy of needs. That's his name.Don't wear it out that safety is the number one.It is like the the bare bones basics of what we need as people and the whole point of the pyramid of the hierarchy of needs is that you physically and mentally cannot focus on the next one until you have the first one and they all build upon each other.9:45And that is really how I see the chakras.Yeah, yeah. The root chakra, it corresponds with the energy of safety, security and belonging. It also corresponds with our basic needs. So think about the years of like your birth through the age 7.10:00It's kind of like energetic where our root starts to develop. What did you need during that time? You needed food, you needed water, you needed shelter. You needed human connection. In particular, you needed family, right? If we think about what does survival mean to our wiring, right?10:20If we think back to the days where we were being chased by Saber 2 tigers, it meant we needed to stay in those tribal relationships, in those familial relationships, whether it's blood family or chosen family.Without that support system, we cannot survive as a species.10:37Your brain actually, OK, this is I'm getting way ahead of myself, but this is something I used to talk about when I worked at a retirement community, is that the brain, you're more likely to get cognition decline if you don't have interpersonal relationships.10:52And one of the number one ways to improve cognitive abilities or maintain cognitive abilities in older adults is to have conversations. That's literally like what the science shows. So it it just shows that no matter how old we are, we need each other and we need those basic needs being met.11:10That's why I say like water is a basic needs. If you didn't have running water, you wouldn't worry about what shower curtain you have. You would be worried about how do I get running water? If you can't make rent this month, you wouldn't be worried about honing your clairvoyance, right?11:27Like that would be the number one thing on your mind.Because we are wired for survival, and your root is really that survival wiring at its core.I think about it and I know you just said something really serious and so sorry we're taking a little bit of, but like when you really have to pee.Yeah, yes.11:44There is like you cannot, you have to like, you literally have to like move your body to like focus on anything else but the need to pee.Yeah, yes.Or if your feet hurt. It's all you can think about.Or if your protein shake has curdled in your stomach, you cannot be psychic.12:00No, I know.Or like, if you don't know where your next meal is gonna be, right?Like This is why I always say like, we have to start with the root.Because the thing about your brain, and we've said this a million times, is it does not know the difference between not knowing how you're gonna feed yourself or not knowing how you're gonna keep a roof over your head and a tiger chasing you.12:22It does not know the difference between you having a bunch of bills stack up and a tiger chasing you.It does not know the difference between being estranged from your family and not having a a support system to replace it and a tiger chasing you.12:39It's going to respond as if you were running for your life. And so all of your wiring in your body and mind, because it is for survival first and foremost. That's what your brain, that's what your body cares about over anything else. It's going to divert all of your resources towards keeping you alive.12:56It's gonna affect your digestion, your immune system, how much pain you feel in your body.I know we talked about this last week, but one of the ways, one of the things that happens when we get into that survival response when we experience fear is our brain diverts oxygen from the low back. And that creates pain in the sciatic nerve often times, which is where the root chakra is located.13:17And it governs the the energy from the low back all the way down to the feet.So if we think about just the physicality, the anatomy of the body, if you had a broken toe and you were still walking on it, your ankles would start to compensate for that broken toe.13:38And so now you have an out of alignment in the ankles and then the knees will compensate for that and then the hips will compensate for the knees. And the next thing you know, you have a shoulder pain because your spine isn't stacked the right way. That's literally how the kinetic chain of your body works. It works from the ground up.13:55So if you, if you've ever heard the saying like two things you should prioritize and like spend money on is like your mattress or your shoes, because those are the things that are going to like make or break your physical body. It's because if our feet are tense, that tension has to go somewhere, it has to go up, so it affects the entire system.14:15Yeah.And if you're someone who does feel resistance to root work or like from the perspective of like I would so much rather do the sexy work right of my crown and my third eye in my heart, I think that's a really important lens to look at it through is that by working on your root, you are working everything.14:36Yeah, yeah. It's like it's, I love the house analogy because I think it helps people lock that in.It's like when you straighten the foundation, then the walls become more square, then the windows work more better, then the roof is more in alignment or whatever.14:51And it's the same thing with your energy centers, right? They stack on each other. So if the energy center of the root is out of alignment, everything above it is going to be wonky. It's going to be harder to do any of the, the balancing work above it until you get that foundation down.15:08And one of the things I also like to kind of point out to people is this doesn't have to be like, oh, I've lost my job or I've, you know, lost my home, I've lost my family, I'm out of money, I don't have food, whatever. This could be just like a destabilization of some way.It could be a good transition that you're going through.15:25It could be a new job that you're excited about. It could be moving across the country that you're excited about getting married, getting engaged, having kids, kids, going off to college, like any of those transitions around the home or the family or around like finances especially can destabilize the root.15:43And it's not because you're like, Oh my God, I'm gonna die. It's because your brain to anything to your brain, anything unfamiliar is a tiger until you prove it otherwise. And so even if you're going into a job, that is your dream.I always talk about like the number one thing that destabilized my root.15:59I thought it was when I worked with survivors of sexual violence because it just made me afraid of everything. But it actually was when I quit my full time job and went into my business for myself because it was so unknown. It was so unfamiliar. It was so scary that my root, it was like I was walking around on egg shells.16:17I was like Bambi on ice.I couldn't get my footing. And a lot of times when we're going through some sort of transition in life, we have a hard time getting stable ground, right?Your routines are all fucked up.Maybe you're not seeing people as much.Maybe you're, you know, sleeping more, sleeping less, right?16:35You're not eating the same way as you were before.Maybe you're skipping meals or you're, you know, eating late at night rather than having like, you know, three square meals or whatever.Like those basic needs are affected. And so your route is like, oh shit, we better, we better be on high alert.16:52Something's going on.And so literally what can happen is your feet will create tension.Your brain, your body doesn't know the difference between you physically walking on thin ice and like being cautious of every step and you mentally walking on thin ice and being in a state of transition and being cautious of every step.17:11And So what can happen is our feet create tension and then the tension goes up to the knees, go up to the hips, go up to the low back. Now you have low back pain and you're like, why the fuck does my low back hurt? But amazingly, once we find solid ground again, once we get grounded and we bring balance back to the root, you might notice that that low back pain, it's not so bad, or that foot pain or that knee pain.17:36So we're gonna break down for you.Kind of like, I know I just talked through a bunch of different ways that it might show up as imbalance, imbalance, but we're gonna talk through some ways that you can find balance.Again, if any of this is resonating, if any, anything, any sort of tension that you can't explain or pain you can't explain from the low back all the way down to the feet.17:58Any sort of excess of worry, of fear, of feeling like you're going through a transition you can't stabilize in your routines, you're struggling in your basic needs in any of those areas. If any of that resonates, or if any of that resonated between the ages of zero to seven, you gotta wanna listen up.18:21Also, if you've never done chalk or healing work before, you're gonna start here, period.I don't.I don't give a lot of shoulds.I don't give a lot of shoulds in my teaching, but I strongly encourage you to start here.We don't tell you what to do except for right now.Yeah.This is where we break all of our rules that we set for ourselves.18:41All of our rules.I love you so much. Please start with your root.Uh huh, I guarantee, I guarantee.I don't give any guarantees usually, but this is my one guarantee.I guarantee if you start with your root, it's going to make whatever chakra you want to work on next so much easier to bring into balance.Because if you do not feel that sense of safety, security, and belonging, the rest is a moot point.19:02Hundo P Hundo P.What? She said.Let's dive into it.Yeah, so one of my favorite ways to do any kind of chakra healing is with sound healing. And so each, each chakra actually has a a frequency that aligns with it.19:22I use an app that will link in the show notes, but it's 396 Hertz is the sound that you're looking for.So I love sound healing because it really is like, so it is like the epitome of low effort to me because I can do anything else while I have it playing.19:39You can go to Spotify or to YouTube and type in 396 Hertz. There's like multiple hours of crystal singing bowls to like two to three minute little clips that play. And I use the app that I have on my phone and it just will play it on the loop and I'll use it to fall asleep.19:57Sometimes I'll do it while I wash the dishes while I do laundry.I'll just let it play at like a low volume kind of whenever I am thinking about it.If there's any kind of like mindless task.I just love sound healing.I feel it really like viscerally in my body.20:15I've also heard something, I don't know if you've heard this before or if you know this to be true, but I've heard that if you have a like a negative reaction to to one of those frequencies, that can also be a symbol that it's something that you need to work on.20:33Interesting.I've never had it happen to me very specifically, but we have the singing bowls in the store and we'll have people play them sometimes and I've heard other people be like, what is that? And like like a, a disgust.20:49And they're all very like neutral sounds in my opinion. And I've like talked to them and been like, oh, do you experience trouble in this area? And I've seen it kind of line up in that way.So that's something interesting to pay attention to is how you respond to those sounds.21:05I will say for the root, I will strongly encourage you not to do any sort of ritual that brings that kind of visceral discomfort.Yeah.Because that the whole point of root healing is to find that sense of say with me, safety, security and belonging.21:26And so we don't wanna, we don't wanna activate the tiger even more. Some of the other chakras it makes sense to kind of like shake things up and like bring in discomfort and like, you know, for growth. But for the root, we just wanna almost like swaddle our energy center.21:44And so if singing bowls don't work for you, just find a different one.Find one that feels soothing, feels comfortable. And something that I think would be interesting to do is that if you know that you've got a wonky root and you feel that discomfort, try some other methods and then come back and see if there is a change.22:04I think that's really interesting is to see how that how that association with those sounds changes as you work on each energy center.Oh, I like that.I like that a lot. There's also seed sounds, which are basically like sounds we can make in our mind, in our throat, in our body, that can help bring balance to the root.22:25There's a lot of different like seed sound maps, seed sound.I don't know if map is the right word, but the one that I use.And if you have checked out the intro to chakras course, you have a, a cute little song that goes along with remembering the seed sounds.I will link that in the in the show notes.22:41I call it the wheels on the spine. But the root is Lam L AM.And so you can, if you are into chanting, you can chant Lam, right?Just like you would chant ohm Lam.You can hear Lam internally when you're working with the root, or I'm sure you can find like chants of Lam somewhere in the YouTube world.23:08That's something that I've never worked with and didn't even really know about until you once sang me the Wheels on the Spine song, which she did sing for me promptly before we started.Should I sing it for them now?I feel like you must.It has changed my life.I'm not gonna lie to you. It's the only reason I know the seed sounds.23:26The wheels on the spine go lum bum rum lum bum rum lum bum rum The wheels on the spine go lum bum rum.Yum om.Thank you for your service. You're welcome. You're welcome. So something else that you can do.23:44Another really nice low effort for me is to wear the colors associated with the root chakra, which are red and black, something that I really like to do because if you listen to the pod for a little while, you know that I am on a stop biting your nails journey.24:02I wouldn't say that we're in a great spot right now.I am back to nub status, but they are they are well maintained nubs because I paint them in the color of the chakra that I want to work with.So right now they are black, but I will also do orange.24:23So I have the only one I don't have is yellow.Sorry to the solar plexus. It's just not a great color for my nails personally. My skin tone, I'm a little pale and pasty. You wear gold, but I wear gold jewelry. There you go.So there you go, we make up for it, but I let you know.Do a little nail art moment if that's what you're into.24:40Yeah, yeah, love it.I also like, especially for the root chakra, I like to use the color as my socks or my shoes because then it just pulls your awareness down to that area that the root governs. That is a great idea.Yeah, yeah.Love a little sock magic.24:56I also will wear anklets with like crystals that correspond with the root, which we'll talk about in a little bit.But anything that pulls your awareness down there is gonna be great. So like if you have a if you have a one of those like heated foot massagers that I keep getting ads for on TikTok, If you have one of those, that is great.25:21Root, root work OK.More root chakra options is you can start to bring balance to your root by eating foods that will help stabilize your roots. So you could go with the color like red foods, tomatoes, strawberries, cherries, apples, but I really like to go for beets.25:46Sorry Beets.I was excited.Bears beets.Battlestar Galactica I really like to think about because the root chakra is corresponds with the element of earth.26:03I like to think of those earthy root foods. So like root vegetables, salty foods, potatoes, carrots, turnips, ginger, right?Anything fresh from a garden too, if you have a garden at home.26:21Gardening in general is really great for root chakra because you're working with the earth, but any of those like you can make yourself a hearty fucking Stew, a root chock, or baked potato.Yeah, I think that that even really goes in to like that feeling of safety and security as well gardening because it is like AI can provide for myself.26:43Yeah.I can take something from the ground, I can nurture it, I can grow it, and then I can use it to sustain myself.Yeah.And I think especially like making a meal for family is such a good root chakra exercise because you are like focused on all of those things.27:04Like I am safe because I'm cooking something and I'm not on fire.I am secure because I have enough food to feed my family. And I belong because I'm sitting around with my family connecting over this food. And again, when we say family, it could be your blood family, your family by marriage, or just your family by friendship.27:22You get to define what family is when it comes to your root chakra. It's just your people.Your peeps OK, next one is putting your feet in the grass or in sand or in water or like a a foot bath.27:37So like a salt.Salt is a big, big root chakra.I always say salt for protection, you know that, but it's really salt for the root salt to to bring you back to the earth. And so anything that brings your feet physically to the earth is going to be a really powerful root chakra practice.27:55If your root is out of balance and you know that, I would maybe explore some foot rolling. So something that I really like to do is you put both feet on the floor and you just notice kind of how they connect with the ground. And then you take a tennis ball or you can take like the handle off your broom and roll on a dowel like that.28:16Roll one of your feet to get the tension out of it.And then place your feet on the ground again and notice if you feel more connected in that foot that you just rolled and then do the other side. It's a really powerful way to start to sensitize to when you were feeling less connected or more connected to the earth and therefore to your.28:34Root.Yeah.Also if you live near the water, one of the most powerful things that Molly ever told me to do was in a time that I was experiencing a lot of dysregulation and just kind of going through it.28:50Molly unprompted was like, you need to go to the beach and put your feet in the water up to your ankles, like cover your ankles in salt water. And when I tell you that has become my go to practice because it is both grounding and cleansing.29:09Yeah.So highly recommend.Or even if that's like making a salt water bath in your tub.Yeah.Or getting a bucket from Home Depot, fill it with warm water and salt, stick your feet in it.Watch your favorite TV show, your comfort TV show.Highly recommend while you eat your root chakra baked potato with your red bacon bits or whatever.29:27And beets.Beets, beet, baked potato, baked beets.Oh wait, you know what? That just reminded me?Buttered Beets. What?Beets because beets like really bassy music is great for.Chakra.29:44So if you're driving around, so if you wanna do this is a root chakra exercise I'll do in my car, turn the bass up and then turn your heated seat on.It's gonna bring you right down into the root.Uh huh.OK, something we have to talk about is that Molly keeps her heated seats on on all year round.30:00I do.And that is some true dedication to the root.I'm a root girly through and through I'm a root girly.I cannot imagine.I love it.Now I have air conditioned seats too, so I kind of go back and forth.Like if I get too hot, I turn the AC seats on for a little bit and then I'll turn the heat back on.30:19You live my dream life.OK, our next one might seem kind of boring, but I think this is a really good like mundane magic practice too.Magic exactly is tending to your home can be root chakra work and that can like that can be cleaning your house totally.30:41But it can also be like those maintenance tasks, those things that like you do, you know, quarterly or yearly that you know that you need to do to keep your home in tip top shape, even like changing the air filters in your house, things like that, budgeting, anything that is like the true caring for your home and yourself.31:02And your finances? And your finances helps create that sense of safety, security and belonging.Yeah, I also, I see this a lot with people who some of my clients, when I do like full body energy readings, they will mention stress at work and there's almost always like some imbalance in the root.31:21And I, I had a client very recently who was like just very unhappy in their job and had a lot of low back pain. And so I recommended to them, what if you just started applying for different jobs?Like give yourself a way out.31:38You know, you don't have to take them, but just let yourself see that there are options that you're not trapped.Because when we're trapped, it's like we're a mouse in the corner being chased by that tiger. And she came back to me like a week later and she's like, so I applied to a couple jobs and the next morning I woke up, my low back pain was gone.31:55And I was like, great, love that for you.Excellent.So it can be as simple as just like letting your body and your energy system know that you're not trapped, that you're not actually being chased by a tiger. And so doing any of those financial care tasks, home tasks, body management tasks to like make that doctor's appointment, like, you know, like those things that you've been putting off that you know, are gonna make you feel better or at least make you feel more secure paying your taxes.32:28Like we all hate to do it, but with the threat of taxes and the threat of IRS looming over you, your roots gonna be out of balance. So you might as well just do it and call it a a a chakra healing task.Yeah, in the same kind of vein, I know we touched on it with gardening, but like caring for the other things in your house with that same nurturing energy that you're giving yourself, like taking care of your plants, tending your garden.32:53That is something that helps me.I say it all the time on this podcast that my plants are like the state of my plants are a direct correlation to the state of myself.Care for the other thing, you know, like the the act of caring for something and showing that I am capable of of nurturing and of keeping something alive and afloat.33:12Yeah, really does tend to not only like my mental health, but also my root.Yeah, and like your environment in general, right?Like when your plants are happy, the energy in your home is happier. And like when the energy of your home is happier then your root's like alright cool I could get down with this place.33:27I notice a direct correlation also when so all my plants are in my office, which is also where we record this podcast. And like this summer is brutal. And so my plants are suffering the consequences of where I have placed them, which is in the state of Florida.33:47And I notice that when I haven't done a good job taking care of the plants and they're like looking sadder, I feel anxious to record.Yeah.Because like looking at them and seeing them, one, like on like a base level, that makes me sad, but two, it really does impact the energy of the space.34:05So that's something that I need to do this summer is maybe do some pruning. The truth is, I feel sad at the thought of like, I have plants fully that are dead in here. And I feel so bad that the idea of throwing them away really like upsets me because I'm like, I'm responsible for this.34:21I should have to look at look at what I've done. But sometimes, sometimes, just like the death card in tarot is not always a bad thing, right?I feel like the death of plants can be a good thing 'cause I think I think plants reflect our energy too.And like I had a situation where I had a couple plants die and I felt bad about it, but then I threw them away and it was like all these opportunities came to me.34:44It was like new could grow in the space or the energy. So you can think of it that way.I could buy more plants if I got rid of the space that was being held by.That too. That too. That too.Another root talker balancing exercise that is not that sexy but can be really powerful is to call your grandparents or your parents or your family text your sister.35:04I just talked to my brother for the first time in like a year the other day and I was like, wow, that was a very healing root talker exercise. My brother and I get along fine.We just, we both have, you know, that brain thing where if we don't see it, it doesn't exist and.Heal the permanent other side of the world.35:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.So we like forget that we have siblings until it's like a birthday or something.Uh huh.Love you, Brian. But yeah, like call your call your family.I, I will tell you like one of the things that I did when I knew I was healing my root is I set a schedule for myself to call my family members.35:43So like, and because I'm a habit stacking queen, it was when I drove home from teaching yoga on Tuesdays, I would call my dad.And then when I drove home from work on Fridays, I would call my mom and then on Sundays I would call my grandparents. It was like I had to map it out because my ADHD.36:01Again, if I don't see you, you don't exist to me.But connect with your family in some way shape or form.Send them a fucking postcard if you want to.Yeah.And this is another time where, like when we say family, yeah, we mean all matters of family. This is something my partner is so good at.36:20Yeah, they have a book.Club.Yes.My boyfriend's family has a book club. They meet once a month. It's adorable. It's adorable. He calls them every day.Almost same thing with his friends though too.Was the point like was where I was trying to go is that I have never seen another person so interconnected with their community?36:42I love that. And it really does reflect in like.I've never seen a more stable root.Yeah, yeah. That foundation, it is 10 feet in the ground and it is unmoving, and I really think that that has a lot to do with it.Yeah, I think being connected to community in general, that was the advice that I got from my coach when I was transitioning out of my 95 into my business and feeling that destabilized route, which she was like, you need to be connected to community, like whatever that means for you.37:14For me, it was like going to yoga class more regularly. Now I have a new coffee shop that I'm obsessed with, my favorite coffee shop, which is like my home away from home, closed a year ago.RIP loved it so much I named my dog after it.37:30So that was like my root healing center. But now I have a new coffee shop and I feel that stabilization.Like I literally like I'm.So I'm in the process of writing a book.I don't know if y'all heard about mundane magic.I can't write it in my office for whatever reason.37:47I have to go to this coffee shop and write it 'cause I can't access my creativity until my foundation is stable. And even though I feel pretty stable at home, it's like I really need to focus on stabilizing in my community because that's what brings that the creative force of that book to me.38:03Yeah, so interesting. And I think that's why that's been so important for the stores.Like we've, it's always been a huge priority for us to have ample seating and comfortable places to gather and hosting free events for people to meet one another and be in community.38:24And we haven't always known quite why it's so important. We've just been like, I just know we have to do this.I just know we have to do this.Yeah.And I think it is because on a whole, it's what we could all use.Yeah, especially after like the pandemic, I think like the recognition of how important community is really started to become front and center when we lost access to it and had to get creative about how we stayed connected to each other.38:56And I think we're still learning how to do that now.Big time.Yeah.OK, other options. So I will let you know I have a little surprise for y'all, a little surprise to help you balance your chalkers throughout the series. So if you are not subscribed to my YouTube, we'll leave the link in the show notes.39:15But every week after this podcast airs on Thursdays, I'm going to be posting a meditation that corresponds with the chakra. So you're going to get a root chakra meditation this week. It's all about like connecting and drawing roots down into the earth, which is one of my favorite meditation practices.39:32Whether you're a visual person or not, this is really powerful practice to just feel that connection between your body and the earth and gravity. And then the following Monday I'm going to post a 5 minute magic video of a little some something you can do in 5 minutes or less to help bring balance to the root chakra.39:51So this week we're going to be making a root chakra spell jar.So those are two fun practices that you can do in the next week if you want to continue working on your root and you want to be guided through it.I'm very excited for that.40:06I think they're going to be really good.I'm so excited.I, yeah, I, so I will tell you like I, I, I film, I have like a film crew for my YouTube because I was like, I can't, I could not stay consistent with it if I was filming myself and editing myself, 'cause I do so much.I create so much content now and that was the most fun filming experience I've ever had.40:26You will also see throughout the series me slowly glistening more and more because we had to turn the air conditioner off.Well, we were recording and we were recording for 3 1/2 hours. So if you notice, I'm like 10 times sweatier by the end of the the solar plexus video.40:42That's why.All right, Next on our list is any kind of nervous system regulation work.So we actually did an episode a long time ago on the vagus nerve that I think would be really helpful for this.41:00If you want to do a call back to an old episode, I would love, I think about like, now that we've been recording for so long, what our older episodes must sound like.Because I listened to them once.Yeah.After they're edited and then I release them from my memory.41:17Yeah.Same.They they never, they no longer exist. So as I'm like, yeah, go listen to the Vegas nerve episode of like, what on earth did we even talk about? What?I can't imagine what we sounded like.I'm sure it was great.I'm sure it was great. You'll probably hear an A constant tremble in my voice of fear, but really like focusing on the nervous system.41:43And again, the idea of tending to your nervous system is really great root work.Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. And then finally, we have some crystal recommendations if you're someone who likes those, some crystals for the root.I love Obsidian.41:59Obsidian is my favorite.I've I, I could scream this from the rooftops, but Obsidian is great. It's not just great for protection and connecting with the root, but it's really great for healing the shadow part of the self, right?42:14So a lot of times we talk about like inner child healing, right? And healing those shadow sides of ourselves that maybe we're not like in love with. And it's really about like becoming more familiar with the shadow side and loving all parts of yourself.42:31And I see Obsidian as a really powerful tool to do that with your feet firmly on the ground. So if I had to pick one, if I was stranded on a deserted island and I had to do root chakra work, Obsidian would be my go to.Red Jasper is my next fave, followed by black tourmaline, red calcite, and Schoon gite.42:51Those are my faves.Excellent recommendations, thank you.Thank you. What do you think?Did we get to the root of it?But are you rooting for the rest of the series?Oh.God, All right guys, we will see you next week as we dive into the Sacral chakra.43:13Hip, hip.Hooray.I thought you were gonna have a a sacral pun.I was really excited for it.I did. What was hip?Oh fuck it.On that note.Bye.Thanks for listening to Demystify Magic with Molly and Madison.43:33If you want to learn more about us, you can
