Welcome to Demystify Magic with Molly and Madison.
I'm Molly, a former skeptic turned full time energy healer and teacher.
And I'm Madison, a born and raised witch running my family's crystal shop.
And we're here to explore all things woo through the lens of both science and spirituality, so that you can find the moments of magic in your everyday life and create an intentional spiritual practice.
0:20
So if that's what you're into, find a cozy spot, take a deep breath, and let's demystify some magic.
Howdy Doody friends, is it?
We have a demystify magic first on our hands this episode in which that we recorded this, talked for an hour, and then realized that my microphone stopped recording maybe 2 minutes into the conversation.
0:49
It was such a good yappy episode too.
Y'all would have loved it but the universe said no that was just for us.
The.
Archives.
Yep, that was just.
We needed to catch up, apparently, but the good news for you is that now we're rehearsed, we're rehearsed.
1:05
We're so bored.
Time ever.
It was 2 days ago because we were so upset and then both of our blowouts didn't turn out.
I spent the whole episode in rollers and when we found out my mic wasn't working Molly was like take out the rollers take out the rollers like this will this will make us feel better and it looked like dog shit it was so bad.
1:27
It was a rough day.
It was an extremely rough.
Day I had to like sit and stare into the void for at least 15 minutes.
But now we are here recording in 18 different ways, hyper watching the little, our little software go.
And we're here to talk about the new year, new year, new year, new US.
1:47
You know, at least it took however many years, almost 2 for this to happen, you know?
But we are gonna go take a walk down memory lane, look at some some New Year's goals past, and we're gonna talk about our manifestation for 2025.
2:06
Yeah, and if you've listened to our witchy guide to the new year from last year, you know that we're not big on intentions.
No, we are big on intentions.
What are we not big on?
Resolutions.
Here at Demystify Magic, we're not big on intentions.
No, we're going to take you through some of our manifestation techniques, how we've stayed detached and not like let our self worth get tied up in what we're able to manifest.
2:34
And then I think we're going to dive into what our word of the Year and our Crystal of the year is for 2025.
We haven't figured mine out yet.
You haven't?
No.
OK, well I'm going to tell you guys mine.
OK, fine.
I'm sorry.
I'm I'm waiting because I just recorded my meditation for intention of the year and I'm waiting to do my own meditation.
2:54
Do you have your crystal?
No I haven't done that yet either.
I it's the 18th of December.
Dude, tell me some slack this.
Is a New Year's episode OK?
But we're recording it in 2024, and it's going to come out on Christmas Eve.
3:09
All right, OK.
OK, sorry, I thought I had objectives here.
OK, this winter is the time to conserve energy, to hibernate, to turn inward.
I'm liquefying in my cocoon right now.
OK, I'm gonna start over.
I'm gonna start over.
3:25
No, don't.
No, don't.
No don't.
I think there's two types of you're being.
Mean to me again and I'm so close to a.
I'm not being mean, Lily.
Do whatever you want with that.
I'm sorry, OK.
All right, but first.
3:45
I'm not even going to try to segue, but first, Molly, what was your magic moment?
OK, our Madison and I decided we were.
We had the same magic moment.
And so we because notoriously 9 days ago now, we were hanging out for a full 24 hours.
4:02
Spent twelve of those hours at Disney.
And so we were, we didn't want to just say Disney was our magic moment because that's boring.
So we were, we were designated to choose a hyper specific example.
And I'm wondering if we should change our examples from the one that we told each other on Monday.
4:21
No, I've already forgotten everything that happened.
No, I have one.
I have one.
OK, sweet.
I'm just gonna go with the first memory that came to mind when I said we should change them.
OK?
And that memory is we were in Epcot and I was eating a big pretzel because notoriously gluten doesn't count when it's in Disney World, and the pretzel was the size of my torso.
4:47
It was really good too.
It was pretty good.
It was like, what was it like 8 O clock at night?
We were, we were tired.
We had already walked a marathon, half marathon according to your aura ring.
And we were, we were done though, but needed a pretzel.
And so I was eating this pretzel and I had eaten like, you know, 70% of it.
5:08
And I said to Madison as we're standing next to a trash can, I was like please do not let me eat anymore of this.
And she goes why?
And then I take another bite and I start choking on the pretzel.
I need to know what is magic about this.
And coughing to the point where a man sitting next to the trash can goes.
5:28
Is she choking on ice?
Oh yeah, he goes, did she swallow ice in the most monotone voice?
And then I felt like a real asshole 'cause she starts coughing.
And I say out loud, well, if you're coughing, you're not choking to no one in particular.
5:45
So I'm just like letting you have that moment.
Cause at least for me, when I'm like coughing, I don't want anybody to touch me.
You know, like if you aren't making any noise and you're making the choking sign, then I'll give you the Heimlich maneuver.
But outside of that, like I'm going to let you handle it.
You know, like if you're making sounds, I know you're breathing.
6:04
And this man just goes, is she OK?
Did she swallow ice?
And I felt like a real Dick.
This was like, no, clearly she's coughing, she's fine, she can handle this.
See, this is my magic moment because this is like, how close we are as friends where you're completely unfazed that I'm making a total scene.
6:27
And just like, completely.
And it wasn't even, like, exaggerated on my part.
But like, for anyone else who like, starts coughing on a pretzel, it would be considered exaggerated.
It's just who I am as a person.
It is dialed up to 11.
And Madison's just like, yeah, no, she's fine.
6:44
Yeah.
She's just let her.
Go.
She'll get there.
She's so she's OK.
She'll let me know if she needs help.
Yeah.
So that's the, that's the memory that popped into my brain.
What's so funny about that is you made such a scene, but somehow the two other human beings that we were with didn't notice.
7:04
Yeah, they left us.
So we just kept walking and we had to search for them.
I was like, are you fucking kidding me?
How did, like, everybody in Norway heard this except for you 2?
OK, Yeah.
7:20
What?
Was your magic moment.
My magic moment is our photo on Dinosaur, which you can find on our Instagram.
It's so good.
It's so good.
It was one of the first rides that we had ridden.
7:36
So we're both like, we're all in good spirits, you know, like nothing hurts yet.
And I've zoomed in on Molly and I like probably three times a day, every day since we took the photo.
7:52
Even at Disney, for the rest of the day, I was pulling up me.
Remember when this happened?
It's a piece of modern art and you all deserve to see it.
It's really good.
It's really good.
If you're new to the pod.
We, we decided to promote our merch launch, which by the way, you can get merch at demystifymagic.com.
8:13
We instead of doing a big old photo shoot, we're going to go to Disney and promote our launch with ride photos.
And it was the best idea we've ever had.
It was really great.
I really loved it it.
Was really good all right.
We're just jumping right in.
Jump right in.
8:29
Let's jump.
So something I did going into 2024 that I think I talked about in Our Witchy Guy to the new year that I was going to do, so I'm here to report back, is that I did a 2024 bingo card.
I love that.
And this is my new fucking like, this is my manifestation hack because nobody plays bingo unless you used to live in Molly's retirement community and you're listening to this podcast.
8:56
Nobody gets a bingo card, plays bingo, and then thinks poorly on themselves when they don't get bingo.
You know, like there's no you're purely leaving it up to chance.
I need to tell you how serious the ladies of the retirement community I worked out took bingo.
9:11
It got to the point where I had to sit some of them down and say, look, if you can't be nice to each other, we can't.
We can't have bingo anymore.
We can't have bingo anymore because they would yell at each other.
They once they threw things that's.
9:27
Really.
Impressive.
If you call thing, if you call the numbers too slow or too fast, they will scream at you.
They it's, it's terrifying, truly terrifying.
Did you guys?
Have to like draw straws for who was going to call the numbers for bingo Like was that like some It's like punishment the opposite of employee of the month of like you're the month dude number.
9:49
I'm telling you, the here's The thing is, it's very exciting to call bingo once, but to call bingo every week.
I mean, and these ladies, they played, they played 10 rounds and the last round was a coverall.
10:05
What does that mean?
So you had to cover, you had to get, you had to DOB your entire card rather than just 50, so.
You had to like go until that happened.
Yes, that's awful.
It's awful.
And so I think I called bingo like maybe four times when I first started and I was like, I can't, I can't do it.
10:24
I can't do it anymore.
So I started doing a celebrity bingo event where I would ask like local business owners and small town celebrities.
All we're taking, yeah, celebrity is a wibbly wobbly term in this retirement community.
10:40
Hey, you know, it worked.
I I got, I have a really great relationship with the local radio station because of it.
Excellent.
And the and the mayor came out and and then it and then it divolved into like, you know, the person who did my oil change.
I'd be like, do you want to be a celebrity caller?
10:59
Just everywhere I went, I'm like, do you want to?
Do you want to call?
Please call.
Bingo.
Please call Bingo, I'm begging you.
Yeah, it's.
It's very serious.
So just so you know, if you were someone who takes your 2025 bingo card very seriously, you're going to really enjoy retirement.
11:22
And so you know what?
What a great example of how not every tool is for everyone.
Yeah.
I wouldn't take a 2025 bingo card to your retirement community, you know.
Oh God, could you imagine?
Be like when are you going to call this one?
11:40
When are you going to call my grandkids?
Call me.
Sandy stole my dobbler.
No, but what I really loved about doing this was there's only 25 spots and still somehow, first of all, there are some things that are on here that I'm like, what the fuck was I thinking?
12:00
Like why?
Why did I want this so?
Give us an example.
Give us an example.
Why did I have a goal for my personal Instagram account that I've posted on twice, maybe four times this year?
Yeah, it's a quarterly event.
12:18
And so because I'm so detached from the result, like playing bingo, it's like, oh, if I get bingo, that's cool.
You know, maybe I win like a an in and out gift card.
Oh girl, we played with money.
Isn't isn't that illegal?
Is that gambling?
12:34
It depends on who you.
Ask.
I'm not asking it.
Was like Dimes and a dollar.
It was 9 Dimes and $1.00 Yeah 'cause the cover all you won all the.
Dollars.
I've only ever played it for prizes.
Oh yeah, I me too.
12:49
I'm surprised it was cash.
Yeah.
Clearly I'm not as seasoned with bingo as you are.
I can't believe that I'm the one who did the bingo card and not you.
Right, it's because of my trauma.
She's sworn off Bingo.
13:05
You should have seen it during COVID.
I had to do open door bingo where everyone sat in the hallways and I went on the intercom and I was like B7B seven and then people had to call the front.
Desk.
I like that so much more.
They had to.
Call the front desk if they got bingo and I'd have to go in the mic and be like, hold on, we may have a bingo folks.
13:28
But the best part is if you made any noise during that hour in the entire building, you'd hear a lady down the hall be like, shut up, Robbie.
That's the, I'm just missing the O.
That's so funny.
Oh my God that's so good.
13:44
I love that this is just her bingo podcast now.
This is just Molly's Bingo podcast.
Did you know some ladies refer to it as Bino?
They pronounce it Bino the.
G is not silent.
Bingo is not like lasagna.
I hate that it's BINGO Bingo.
14:06
Get any Sorry if you pronounce it Beano, I would love to hear your explanation.
Prove it to me if you say Beano, I need you to write me a dissertation on why that's the correct spelling.
I'll take nothing less MLA format 5 paragraph essay anyways because I'm so detached from the outcome.
14:30
Like the goal is never to get every like and I guess unless you're playing cover all not to take it back there.
But the goal with bingo is very rarely to hit every square.
And so I was able to get really big with my goals without becoming too attached to reaching them, which really allowed me to, like, get pretty close to some of them.
14:53
Like I had half a million listens to Demystify Magic on this bingo card, something that when I wrote it down, I was like, ha, ha.
There will be absolutely no way that's happening.
We hit it last month.
Yeah, I did also put a million listens and we've got 13 days.
Could happen, could happen.
15:10
Share this with a friend, Rate and review.
Listen to your favorite episode over and over and over again.
Play it on.
The volume all the way down.
Put it on.
Repeat.
It's not cheating if you guys do it.
But also looking back like because there's only 25 spots, because I know you're going to talk about 111 wishes because there's only these 25 spots, I also can see like the overarching theme of the year for me.
15:41
Yeah, And I get to take those things that I maybe didn't quite get to.
It's like a realignment period for me of like looking at this bingo card, crossing off what I what I accomplished, seeing the things that I didn't accomplish, but either I'm really close to or I still want to do or are still really important to me.
15:58
Keeping those and then looking like why did I put make a stained glass window for hedge, which like why was that so important?
It took one of my 25 spots that's going to go like that's OK.
Wait to hear some of the things that are on mine.
16:17
You have a lot more verticulousness.
Why do I have Onaja Magachi?
Yeah, if you don't.
Know, I do actually know why exactly I have a Jim Magachi on here.
Do you have one?
No.
Did you get one?
No.
Oh my God, no.
So so Madison lore, I became really hyper fixated on this little Tamagotchi charm from this jeweler.
16:37
Her name is Kimberly Doyle Jewelry, and it's a tiny, solid gold Tamagotchi with a little gemstone for the screen.
They're gorgeous.
They're gorgeous.
They're like, absolutely not something that I need to have.
I don't know, I'd argue that.
16:55
I also have be sent one PR package on this bingo card which I did achieve this year.
Maybe I should Maybe I should combine those for next year and say having to get be sent one Gemagachi PR package?
I just want to for reference, I'm on Kimberly Doyle's website right now.
17:13
The Mama size Jamagachi, which looks like it's the size of my pinky now is 1900 U.S. dollars.
They've gone up a lot in price this year because gold is so expensive.
It was $1200 when I put this on my bingo card.
I only.
I only ever wanted the baby one first of all.
17:29
The baby size is $680 I.
Was never gonna spend $680 on this Tamagotchi.
I think.
I think you should dream big girl.
Treat yourself.
Maybe I should.
Wow, those are really tiny.
Yeah, they're really small.
It literally looks like like.
What is?
What can I compare that to?
It's smaller than AP.
17:44
No, it's probably about pea sized.
That is smaller than AP.
I've seen them on people and they look a little bit.
I'm looking at a photo of them on a human.
Here we go, I'm looking it up too.
I have.
I've intentionally not looked at them in a really long time because I found that my obsession with them was getting to be too much.
18:05
Yeah, I know your obsession gets to be too much when they start showing up on my For You page, because Madison and I just send each other funny videos all the time and things we're obsessed with.
Yep, that's smaller than API.
Think it is P sized.
Maybe it's like half AP?
18:21
Maybe we have bigger PS It's totally.
It's totally.
I think it's Raisin sized.
The Mama is huge, no?
It's like raisins are not consistent sizes first of all.
The Mama size is probably OK.
18:38
We need to stop arguing about this.
OK, the small one, it's a kernel of corn.
It's a corn kernel.
It is a corn kernel and the Mama is a grape.
Yeah.
Mm hmm.
Yeah, Hundo P OK.
Now that that's settled, but something that I was hyperfixed on, hyperfixated on for like 6 weeks, yeah.
19:01
And then?
Happened to be in January.
Happened to be in January.
Willingly let it leave my brain space and now at the end of the year I get to look at it and be like, oh that's fun and silly.
Maybe I'll hyperfixate on that again for six more weeks now that it's gone up in price $700.
You know, I, I support that about you.
19:19
But then I also have some things that were really important to me and are still really important to me, like buy a house was on here.
That was like my one big huge dream, which I did do.
I did also give myself a free space of the Spellcrafter grand opening, which I did get.
19:38
And then there are some other things that I get to see how my goals have like changed and grown and the things that I accomplished this year that I like didn't even think were possible.
Like originally when we opened Spellcrafter, I really wanted to have an event that went with the Sabbats.
And this was like before I even really knew what our event schedule was going to look like, like what was going to be popular.
20:01
And so I'd kind of imagined this like night market where I would invite other people in to show their witchy wears and do things like that.
And you know.
I knew that I wanted to have community, but that felt like the safe option.
20:20
A lot of if you've been listening for a while, you know that one of my big goals for this year was to get more comfortable being seen.
And this goal very much feels like old Madison making a goal of like, oh, I'll give other people the opportunity to be seen.
Yeah.
20:36
Oh, that's so interesting.
And now what we do on the Sabbats is we host a ritual and it's like the whole Spellcrafter team.
We started it with Sawin this year.
We have Yule coming up by the time, like it'll have just happened when you listen to this.
But we make magic, we get really fucking witchy, and it's all of us together being seen as a group and also giving other people the opportunity to be seen because the people who come in, it's like a very safe and sacred space.
21:06
I love that.
And so seeing the things that I've accomplished that January and me didn't really understand was possible for.
Her.
And so that's why I really love the bingo card.
That's my pitch for the 2025 bingo card.
I did maybe make a little Demystify Magic Canva template that we'll be sharing.
21:26
We if we put it on our Instagram, then people can share to their stories and fill it in.
That's a even better idea.
That's an even better idea.
Is it going to be hard to put text in those little boxes?
You know what you guys tell us?
Yeah, you tell us.
It'll be on.
It'll be pinned on our page.
OK, go get it.
21:43
Go get it.
You want to tell me about 111 wishes?
Yes, I've talked about this on the pod before.
Don't ask me which episode.
Sometimes y'all ask me which episode and I'm like my memory is good, it's not that.
Yeah, your guess is as good as mine.
If anyone can tell me which episode I try to describe the plot of Wicked before I saw it, can you please let us know?
22:04
I'm dying to listen to it now that I've seen the movie and I've watched a bootleg version of the play on YouTube. 111 wishes.
So this is not a Molly original idea.
I got this from Haley Hoffman Smith who has a podcast called Big Conversations, Which I used to listen to a lot when I was doing this practice.
22:21
I will let you know I didn't do much in terms of like writing down goals or manifestations or anything for this year because 2023 was like arguably one of the worst years of my life.
I was in a very, very low point.
My OCD was just like running the show.
22:39
I was feeling really like insecure financially and just like just straw ruggling to the point where I got my prescription for Prozac in the late the earlier late fall.
And when I look back on all the things that have happened this year, all of that stems from that moment, like that moment where I started taking Prozac and started really like taking control of my OCD is when all the doors opened for me for this podcast, for the growth that we've seen this year.
23:16
And so I just want to put the caveat out there that we are not believers that you can manifest your way out of everything.
Like sometimes the reason why you're facing resistance or you're struggling to manifest is because you need additional support.
And sometimes that comes from, you know, prioritizing your health, prioritizing your mental health, like medication.
23:36
We are fans of here on the podcast.
And so I really believe that the success that I've seen this year is a direct result of saying yes to that prescription, which I was nervous about at the time.
And now I'm a big advocate of.
23:53
So 111 wishes.
Haley does this on November 11th, hence 11 11111.
Anyway you can do this anytime though don't be like well it's not November, I can't do it.
You can do it anytime, it does not matter.
It's so embarrassing that it took until you said that for me to have the realization that I didn't have to do it in November.
24:15
Like as you're talking like God, I didn't do it this.
I didn't do it last year or this year.
I did it.
I started in 2023 like, but I didn't finish it on that day.
So I let it go like I'm gonna do that.
I'm gonna do it on January 11th.
There we go, There we go.
24:33
So the idea is you make a list, one through 111, which I know sounds daunting, and you write down 111 things that you want in your life.
And the reason that I say it's daunting, but that's the point is because you start to really see what your priorities are and it forces you to dig deep and think beyond the realm of what's possible in this very moment.
24:58
So I think these are really fun to look back on.
I pulled up my 111 wishes from 22 and I think this is so fun to look back on because I, I basically, I write this list and then I put it away.
25:14
I do it digitally.
So I put it in my notion and then I just ignore it for a year or two.
And then when I go back through, I highlight all the things that have happened and it's always a surprise to me.
So like four of my top five have happened.
25:30
My first one was house renovation and as we know I've I've moved so I I counted that as happened.
Yeah, it was renovated in some way.
It was changed.
Yeah.
What is it?
Renovation is not a change. #2 is have two bathrooms in the house so when I've 2 1/2 now #3 is a car that's fuel efficient with a sunroof and heated seats.
25:56
I did get a car this year #4 is house cleaner once week I don't have that.
I also have that on my bingo card and I also didn't do that.
You know, maybe, maybe 2025 and then #5 which I think is hysterical right up here with all of these things is walking treadmill and standing desk, which is, which was my Jamagotchi of 2022.
26:21
It was your Jamagotchi that is so funny to me.
The best part is so walking treadmill and standing desk is number 5.
Write a book is number 19.
We had to get and you know what?
It's the hierarchy of needs.
26:36
Like you gotta get to your standing desk and walking treadmill before you can dream big enough to write your book, you know?
Yeah, you gotta.
You have to have two bathrooms.
Well, you don't, but you know.
Gotta get my shit together.
26:53
Yeah, exactly.
You, you gotta not be standing outside the bathroom, like pounding on the door saying please, please, please, please, please.
I gotta go before you can dream big enough.
You know?
I get it.
The cool part about this is I counted and of 100 and 11:35-ish have happened, some of which I'm still waiting on.
27:14
Like #88 perform as Bobby Strong and you're in town.
The musical told you that was a dream of mine for years.
Years and and some of them like are no longer things that I want like, you know, get new Windows in my house.
27:31
I don't need that now I have a new newer house and some things like took a while to come true.
You know, the whole write a book.
I have put that on my list every year since I was 15.
It's finally happening and then some things came true and became catalyst for even bigger things like #85 says visit Madison's shop.
27:51
Which is so cute, I can't handle that.
It's so cute 'cause we hadn't met in person yet, and since then we started a podcast.
You've opened another shop which I got to visit multiple times.
28:07
We've spent hours and hours and hours together in the flesh.
We've had a slumber party.
I've had a slumber party.
We went to Disney.
Finally.
I've done events at your shop.
Yeah, like Utah, a whole Reiki one.
It's it's really wild to think about.
28:24
Yeah, and had no idea any of that was going to happen when I put Visit Madison Shop on my list.
So I love this because again, it's like it's so funny to see the things that happened year after year after year.
Like in 2022 #11 my goal was to visit my dad twice next year.
28:43
This year I got to see him five times, which was amazing.
And so it's like, oh, I'm I'm able to dream so much bigger now in some of these.
And then some of them I'm like, what the hell was I thinking?
Like what was I thinking for some of these?
29:03
I just wrote modular paddle.
Board, sure.
What does that mean?
I have I have a paddle board, does that count?
I if it's so fun, like this is my testament to like putting your manifestations into the physical because it's like meeting the past versions of yourself, you know?
29:22
Yeah, the the versions of yourself that you don't remember.
Like you don't remember wanting a modular paddle board, but that Molly is out there and like seeing what was important to you in 2022.
I don't know.
I think it's, I think it's like beautiful in a way.
29:38
I think it's cute.
It's very cute.
I also really wanted to hire a personal chef.
That hasn't happened, but maybe it will.
That is so funny to me as well.
I also have train a celebrity in Reiki but I didn't define what a celebrity means so.
29:55
Yeah, like is are we counting D list?
I don't know.
I think I was really hyper fixated on, I read an article about how Britney Spears is afraid of Reiki, and I really want to.
Yeah, yeah, 'cause she was like, offered it during her conservatorship and from, like, people she didn't trust.
30:16
Yeah.
And so she had like a a bad experience with it, understandably.
Yeah, totally.
So I was like, well, I need to change Britney's mind.
There's a lot of Britney references in my 2022 list.
There's at least three.
30:33
That's a lot.
That's almost 3%, no.
All right, other things that I did do this year, since I don't have 111 wishes I can talk about, is I really, because I had such a rough year last year, I just decided to let the universe guide me this year and to facilitate that, I did a meditation to choose my crystal of the year, which was Garnet.
31:02
I do have that meditation up on my YouTube, by the way, so we'll link it in the show notes.
And then I also set a word of the year, which I'll be releasing meditation to find that as well.
And my word of the year was Dream Bigger, which very much was like a theme of this year.
31:20
And we're just going to pretend it's one word.
Yeah, it's hyphenated.
But like it, it was very much, you know, like my goal was to see my dad more and I got to see him, you know, almost every other month this year, which was wild.
31:36
Like last time I saw him he was I swagged him out in demystify magic merch.
As one should.
As one should and watch both home alone movies, you know, like was able to just like chill rather than like having to do all the things, you know, when you only see family a couple times a year or, you know, we, we set a goal for like, I think it was like 50K listens on the podcast, which we hit like in the first couple of weeks of January and we're like, well, what, what, what do we go, what do we go from here?
32:11
And just hit half a million listens.
So that's wild.
I set a goal that my Reiki training would sell out in a day and in February it sold out in 12 minutes.
So I was like, OK, I, I'm done setting goals because I'm clearly setting the bar too low.
32:28
So I'm just going to move in the direction of what feels good.
And I think Garnett is such an interesting crystal to have chosen me, but it's so perfect.
Like, you know me, I love the lore and history and mythology of crystals.
So I've been looking into what garnet means because at the time I'd never really worked with it, but it's very much a stone for grounding, protecting against failure, success.
32:53
And OK, here we go.
Here's the lore.
So Garnet, the name comes from the Latin word for seed because it looked like a pomegranate seed.
And so Hades, when Persephone left the underworld, Hades gifted her pomegranate seeds to ensure her safe return.
33:16
And so because of that lure and because of granite's connection with pomegranate seeds, it became a tradition to gift a friend who's going on a trip garnet so that they have a safe return.
And so I just thought that was so interesting because like, my best friend moved across the country this year and I gifted her garnet because of that.
33:40
Also, one of my favorite books that I read this year was a smutty Hades Persephone retelling called Neon Gods, which you should all put on your TBRS.
How many times did I tell you to read that book?
I don't know.
More than once.
OK I just read the third book which is the third book in that series is like imagine The Hunger Games but PETA and GAIL are also banging each other.
34:05
That's a good, that's a good representation of that series.
It's great.
OK, Anyways, anyways, so I travelled a lot this year.
So it, it was interesting that Garnett was just kind of this through line of all the things, like all the success I experienced this year.
34:21
And I really did feel like this was a year where I couldn't fail.
Like not in like a delusional egotistical way, but just in like a way where I was like, I just have a lot of trust in the direction that I'm being taken in.
And it's fully because I took my hands off the wheel in January.
34:36
I was just like guide me and Prozac.
Prozac, take the wheel.
Yeah, Prozac, take the wheel, baby.
We don't need Jesus.
We need SSRIs.
Hey, you know we do.
We do.
What was your word of the year?
34:52
My word of the year this year was magic, which I don't even think I really knew what that meant for me when I chose it.
It just felt very right in the moment when we were talking about it and thinking about it and I watching like how that has evolved for me because I think in January I felt very disconnected from like magic as even like a concept for me.
35:20
I was really in the weeds in January of like trying to get Spellcrafter open and like really like slogging through the very logistical, like worldly problems that come with opening a retail space of like things like construction and permits and bathrooms and, you know, things like that.
35:45
And I felt this like disconnect from the magic of it all that has really like letting magic be my guiding light.
This year has really brought me back to it.
You know, I've talked about, you know, you know this episode like this thing about me getting comfortable being seen and I wouldn't say that I'm like there yet.
36:06
If you've ever met me in the stores or anything, you see, I instantly you can see all my muscles clench when someone goes.
Are you Madison?
I go but but I think the version of you today is like leaps and bounds beyond what you imagined a year ago.
36:23
Oh.
For sure.
And I think that a lot of that has to do with like, acknowledging and seeing and holding space for my own magic and really like embodying magic.
Linda texted me something the other day.
36:39
She just said to me, like, you know, your natural ability, your natural magical ability really does blow me away And sent it with like, no, like, no reason, no context.
Just was like a really nice thing to say.
And of course I cried, but it had me look back of like, oh, I really have opened myself up and made myself.
37:03
I've given myself the opportunity to grow there.
And I have both like, seen the magic that exists innately in me.
And I've also, I feel like pulled more magic in to my life and made more space for magic.
37:19
And like through Spellcrafter, I really feel like I've been able to do that.
I feel like the people around you too are in that same journey.
And I have learnt like I've really, I've gotten really comfortable.
I think I used to think because I was like opening a space that I had to be an expert.
37:40
And I thought that like saying I didn't know something would, especially because I'm so young in comparison to like what a lot of people think.
It's rare that someone isn't surprised when they like ask who the owner is.
37:55
And it's me, you know, like if you're standing in a line with me and Anthony and Linda and my mom who is also an owner, but like, you know what I mean?
Like I'm the one who takes that on in this space.
Like just like my mom does at Hedgewich for it to be the 27 year old little girl.
38:12
And not that I've, I know I'm not a little girl, but like from a lot of older people's perspective, like, yeah, it's I hear you're, you're a baby all the time, which thank you keeps saying.
And it makes me feel better as I approach 30.
I thought being that person, I had to like, I had to prove myself in some other way of like, oh, you're surprised because I'm only 27.
38:35
Like, let me show you what I know and let me prove to you that I'm deserving of this.
And I've gotten really comfortable learning from the other people around me and saying like, no, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Can you please tell me about it?
Yeah.
And that has put me in such a position where, like, I've really learned so much and I feel so lucky to have such incredible resources and like mentors in my life who have also really like, fostered my magic as well.
39:06
I love that.
I love that.
I feel very lucky. 2024 was quite the year.
It was really the year.
The fun part is we're kind of like we were on the same trajectory this year and it's a Hondo pee because of the podcast.
Like we got our Spotify Wrapped and it was like, your podcast has grown 999% this year.
39:26
And we're like, yeah, we can feel it.
Yeah, everything that we have right now is because of the podcast.
And you listening?
You very specifically.
You listening?
Yeah.
And we love you for it.
We love you for it.
So thank you for an incredible year.
39:44
Please share with us your Word of the Year, your Crystal of the Year, your bingo card if you feel so inclined.
We'll be sharing that template.
And let's do it even better in 2025.
Yeah, let's go by another 999.
40:02
Percent.
Let's all get gemagachis.
Oh.
My God could be and standing desks.
And standing desks and walking pads.
Fuck it.
Let's be let's be financially irresponsible.
40:22
That's.
My word of 2025.
Irresponsible.
OK, we love you guys.
Bye.
